Checking In

Thanks to everyone for your support so far! I’m learning a lot and having a great time doing it.

FYI–I should have last night’s set at Phyllis’ Musical Inn up within the next few days. Working with someone else’s camera for the time being and trying to get all the proper connectors and software set up.

Phyllis’ Musical Inn – Chicago, IL – 6/19/2007

Here it is. First open-mic set EVER.  Care of Phyllis’ Musical Inn in Chicago, IL.

I could stand to speak up a bit. Better preparation is not a bad idea, either. Not great standup by any stretch, but not bad for a first time, I suppose. What do you think?

Setup

For years, I’ve wondered if I have what it takes to perform stand-up comedy. I’ve done quite a lot of theatre, sketch/improv, and writing of all kinds, but the mere thought of getting onstage—by myself—and performing jokes that I had written has always given me the sweats.

I’m tired of wondering. I’m taking the plunge and seeing what happens. I’ll post video of my open-mic appearances (and, hopefully, any actually gigs), so I can share what I’m doing with anyone who cares, and so my progress will be here for all to see.

Many jokes you’ll see numerous times as I refine. Sometimes you’ll get absolute garbage, I’m sure. Sometimes a gold nugget or two. I haven’t a clue how this is going to turn out. Find out with me, and be sure to let me know what you think along the way.

STAY TUNED: A clip of my very first open-mic experience (along with a few of my post-set comments) is on the way.
